Bastø FosenI ferry obtained the certification of IMO TierⅢ

The Marine Engine of BastøFosenI in Norway obtains the first certification of IMO TierⅢ without SCR and urea post-treatment.

The vessel was modified by a GE Marine Diesel Engine 16v250MDC, 16 cylinders medium-speed diesel engine, which appliance with IMO TierⅢ and EPA Tier 4 emission standards. The pollute emission was reduced more than 70%.

The medium-speed diesel engine uses the technique of EGR. Compare with the SCR system, it has many benefits for the “BastøFosenI”: It is not necessary to equip the SCR devices and urea storage tank that can save space of engine room, offer more space for goods, fuel, or water.  The urea system will increase fuel cost by 1-2%, so the GE’s engine will reduce the running cost optimize the engine efficiency and load,15s from zero to 100% MCR.
